Oil Analysis
& Testing

Cost effective testing kits that provide information essential to determining the condition of your equipment. Routine oil analysis is key to a successful maintenance program.

As easy as...

Buy a DIY Test Kit
& take a sample

It all starts with buying a prepaid test kit from us so when you are ready we will be too. The testing package includes a bottle, label, freepost for mailing your sample to us and a downloadable report for you.

Most of our sample kits include options for oil or coolant, however we can arrange an array of specific tests to suit your machine’s needs. Please contact us at lubessupport@tdxltd.co.nz to discuss your options.

Alternatively, if you’d like to pick up a few test kits from your local TDX showroom, click here to find your nearest branch, or simply call us on 0800 848 267.

We strongly recommend that all fluid extractions be undertaken by service technicians, as hot fluids, electrical discharges and high pressures can be hazardous to the untrained operator. There are ideal conditions, tools and specific compartments that can only de identified by a trained mechanic professional.

A “mid-stream” sample is recommended, regardless of whether the extraction is being carried out with a pump or a drain plug, as the oil that comes out immediately or towards the end of the extraction may contain metals or debris which can yield you inaccurate test results.

We don’t recommend extracting samples from dipstick tubes or oil filters as this can yield false results due to the abnormal concentration of debris.

To avoid unnecessary expenditure due to sample cross contamination, we recommend that whomever is responsible for taking the samples be included in the feedback process and success of the extraction.

Labelling a sample correctly expedites the process and ensures consistent and accurate data. Please download our step-by-step PDF here.

Report

Receive analysis
& evaluate

Our reports are sent via email once the testing is complete, results reviewed and evaluated by a professional technician. These emails also contain a PDF attachment which can be printed or sent to interested parties.

You can expect your results within two working days (of physical receipt of the sample). If you have not received the results in this timeframe, email us or call +64 03 344 8415 as we may have problems identifying your sample due to incomplete label information.

Sample reports can be used at a high level to prioritize work by simply looking at the Evaluation Code. These evaluation codes are best thought of as a priority coding system for any action that needs to be taken.

For example, oil that has been extracted at the end of a long drain interval may be depleted and not suitable for further use, but if these results are normal for the hours the machine has done and the label indicates that the oil has been changed, then no further action needs to be taken and therefore this sample may receive an A result.

Evaluation Code Significance

Become familiarised with our coding system and what our rating means to the life of your motor vehicle:

N

NORMAL - No corrective action required, resample at next service interval.

C

CAUTION - Referred to as slightly elevated, or elevated in diagnostic comments. May be used to highlight an increase in results or where results are atypical (excluding additives), but remain within the published normal limit range.
Something requires monitoring or information is required at the next scheduled service opportunity.

A

ABNORMAL - Action should be taken at the earliest opportunity to investigate and rectify the issue. Failure to do so may result in shortened component life and potential failure.

S

SEVERE - Action must be taken immediately; machine should be stopped as potential failure may be imminent if no action is taken.

Accessing your data

All sample data is stored permanently in our Oil Status database which is available 24/7 for online users.

Our website supports both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers, and may not display results properly with other platforms. Ensure pop ups are enabled as you will not be able to view advanced features if pop up blockers are active.

A user ID and a password are required to log into our database. These are typically set up based on incoming sample labels alternatively, email us at lubessupport@tdxltd.co.nz to set up an account for you.

Every email report sent to you has a link that takes you directly to a specific sample on our Oil Status website, which can save you time.

You can also navigate directly through our database at any time and find the entire sample history for every piece of equipment you’ve submitted to us. The login fields are found at the top of the home page for this website.
