    Th' Dudes took home NZ Album of the Year & our 'dudes' Dave & Alister came home from their UK OE to realise BIG idea number one.

    Not exactly carry-on, but what they brought home was one Allison transmission that they had fixed up in their flat before sending it home.

    It was sold to NZ Cement Holdings for a hard-earned $6,000... we were in business!

  • 1981

    Ivan Mauger tore up the track (& the opposition) to take out the New Zealand Speedway Championship for a 2nd time.


    We tore up and rebuilt our first engine- a Detroit 6V53N, as Transmissions & Diesels Ltd.

  • 1985

    Transmissions & Diesels take on the after-market parts sector by gaining the distributorship of Korody Colyer.

  • 1987

    While kiwis started sinking their hard-earned into Lotto every Saturday we were sinking ours into a new workshop to be able to handle unprecedented growth in our business.

    Our new purpose-built premises opens at our flagship location at Edmonton Rd, Christchurch.

     
  • 1989

    We are awarded the Terex Equipment distributorship for haulers, dump trucks and scrapers in NZ. Crikey, we might need a bigger shed!

  • 1990

    A Terex 2366 becomes the first articulated dump truck sold by Transmissions & Diesels to enter service. Reefton company Morris Mines put the machine to work.


  • 1993

    Chokin’ certainly wasn’t living up to his name, taking out both the NZ & Akl Trotting Cups.

    We were getting our noses in front too, taking charge of some big names in the biz! Transmissions & Diesel become master dealer for Detroit Diesel, Allison Transmissions and Perkins in New Zealand.

    1994 was BIG fullstop. The Big Day Out had its first outing in Auckland, giving Gen-X eardrums a thorough working over.

    And in Christchurch, we shifted into a HUGE new 5,100 SqM purpose-built premises.

    The first of four huge Terex $1m Rigid dump trucks sold in NZ destined to work at Huntly (3311E’s 66 tonne).

    Transmissions & Diesels continued growth throughout New Zealand opening a 3,065 Sqm Auckland Branch.

  • 1998

    Sarah Ulmer took off with gold at the comm games 3000m pursuit. We set off in pursuit of the marine engine market becoming the NZ dealer for MTU Detroit marine engines.

  • 1999

    Another really big deal! We completed the biggest ever engine overhaul 2 x 3000hp MTU 396 engines in superyacht Renegade.

    20 years in the biz! Thinking big since August '81'...

  • 2004

    Time for a freshen up. Transmissions & Diesels rebranded and now known as TransDiesel Ltd. Plus with interest from abroad we established Terrequipe SARL in New Caledonia with the Terex Distributorship. Back home we did the same for the NZ distributorship of Terex crushing and screening products.

  • 2006

    While Kiwis lost a bit more loose change with the exit of the 5 cent piece we embraced “loose” by becoming No1 in NZ for loose engine sales ... a spot we still own!

    A stat we're proud to retain today in 2021- still No.1!

  • 2007

    Helping us make even bigger plans for the future! Craig Boyce is appointed as Chairman of the Board and Mike McKessar joins as CEO.

  • 2008

    TripAdvisor named Milford Sound the world's top travel destination and Kohler named TransDiesel the top destination for their industrial engines. Win-Win!!

    We also became the distributor of AGIP / eni Oils too!

2008

  • 2010

    Severe weather lashed New Zealand in September, causing blackouts for nearly 20,000 kiwis. Lucky for some we’d scored the distribution rights for Kohler power gens and the lights stayed on!

    As a sign of Kohler's faith in TransDiesel, we were also granted distribution rights for their power products!

    We took a peek over the ditch too, setting up Terrequipe Pty Ltd operations with our aussie mates- taking on the Terex distributorship for Queensland, later to include JCB.

    The ABs took on the world at home and we brought two of the world's hardest working heavy equipment brands home too... Volvo & Yanmar.

    We became the distributor of Volvo & Yanmar, two of the world's hardest working heavy equipment brands.

    Plus we took on more of NZ by increasing our nationwide reach from 4 to 13 branches!

     
     
  • 2014

    The launch of Volvo Forestry machines. In partnership with Volvo Special Projects and local logging contractors, we designed the machines specifically for the NZ forestry industry. The first forestry carrier was sold to Brolly Logging in 2014- a EC250DL.











  • 2015

    TransDiesel becomes distributor of Sennebogen.

  • 2016

    More firsts! World's first Volvo L250H log loader sold to McCarthy Transport and NC Hire purchased the 1,000th Yanmar machine sold by TransDiesel in New Zealand.

    Big times - the first Volvo A60H Hauler sold in New Zealand to Stevensons Mining.

  • 2018

    Skevingtons are the proud first purchasers of a Volvo EC950 excavator in NZ. PLUS Ballance Agri Nutrients were our 1000th Volvo machine sale customer with their L120H Wheel Loader.

  • 2019

    Charles & Camilla flew down under for a visit (a break from the kids’ drama no doubt). In case they stopped by ours for a brew we gave our flash HQ a spruce up!

  • 2019

    Received biggest ever order for Equipment and Service Agreements. Fulton Hogan growing their fleet by 39 units- including Volvo & Yanmar machines. Cheers!

    Let's be honest. 2020 was not really a year to celebrate catching anything. But we were "stoked-as" to capture Shell oils for NZ!

    In March 2020 TransDiesel were awarded the New Zealand distributorship of Shell Oils and Lubricants.

    We're celebrating a successful 10 years of looking after the Volvo and Yanmar equipment brands in New Zealand!


We’ve come a long way since rebuilding our first transmission, and we are so grateful for the folks we’ve met along the way. In fact we really wouldn't be where we are today without everyone that has come through our doors since we opened.

We can’t wait to see what the next 40 brings...
